PNG fighters return from Rio Olympics

first_imgBoxer Thadius Katua and Judoka Raymond Ovinou were accompanied by coaches and officials on their return.The young boxer Katua, when interviewed said he wished to thanked Papua New Guineans and the Olympic committee for their support.Katua also confidentially told the media that he had won the fight against the Russian but was not given the honour or favour to win.  “Unfortunately I went down against the Russian but I admit I won the match,” he said.With the cheering of the crowd at my back, I felt emotionally confident as I moved forward to lend some good punches at my opponent.Thanks to the Rio crowd who are at my back, though the level of the competition was high I feel that as a young boxer I can make PNG proud next time.Thadius will go home to Bougainville for a week to visit his family before he returns for training for the upcoming matches in the lead up to the Commonwealth Games.last_img
